Monday’s sudden visit of the AERB was first visit of the regulator in a health facility of Government sector in Dehradun. The team found gross anomalies in usage, upkeep and storage of the machines which have become a threat to the lives of unsuspecting patients and technicians.
Shockingly not even a single machine of the department was registered with the AERB. As was expected the administration of the medical college has passed the buck of these failures on the State health department which was their custodian prior to the transfer of the hospital to the medical college.
The college administration, however, cannot shrug off its responsibility as college is in existence for about two years now.
The process of registration with the AERB is simple and online system is adopted by the regulator for registration of the machines.
The visiting team of the AERB should be given credit for pointing these flaws. It also held a power point presentation and taught the technicians about the safety measures and the guidelines.
