Suburban, Dehradun rural areas reel under power cuts

PNS

The life in suburban and rural areas of Dehradun district was affected due to power cut for most of the day on Sunday. The people are bound to suffer till February 10 as the Uttarakhand Power Corporation limited (UPCl) is linking the Rishikesh- Majra line with the newly constructed 132 KV lal Tappar substation on Haridwar road. The highly erratic power supply disturbed the normal lives of people in these areas. The water supply in these areas was also affected as the motors of Jal Sansthan could not pump water in absence of power.

Spokesperson of UPCl Madhusudan said that power supplies in the Doiwala, Sahaspur, Herbertpur, Dhakrani and Vikasnagar were affected due to linking work of powerlines. He said that supplies would continue to be affected till February 20. Madhusudan said that after the linking work the load on Rishikesh substation would be reduced. The commissioning of 132 substation in lal Tappar would qualitatively improve the power supplies in Doiwala and lal Tappar areas which are constantly plagued by low voltage problem.  The UPCl Spokesperson claimed that the department is ensuring supplies in these areas during the linking activity by drawing power from different feeders.
