Students' parents get to park vehicles in school campus again

PNS

Dehradun City Magistrate GC Gunwant led a police team that enforced section 133 of CrPC in St Joseph’s Academy on the second consecutive day and enabled the students’ parents to park their vehicles in the school campus from the Rajpur Road side on Thursday. The school administration opened the gate on the Subhash Road side quite late after the administration’s intervention which led to inconvenience to the road users.

Even Dehradun district magistrate Chandresh Kumar Yadav was stuck in the traffic on Subhash Road outside SJA after school hours with his car moving at a snail’s pace. The City Magistrate had issued notice to all the public schools under section 133 of CrPC on May 25 directing the school authorities to provide parking space for the students’ parents on campus but this order is yet to be implemented in many public schools in Dehradun.

The team led by Gunwant reached the SJA gate on Rajpur Road after school hours and directed the school officials to open the entry and exit gates and allow students’ parents to park their vehicles in the campus from one gate and allow them to exit from the other gate. Following this, smooth flow of traffic was facilitated on Rajpur Road. On the Subhash Road side of the school, some policemen were witnessed directing the students’ parents not to park their vehicles outside the school failing which they would be penalised under the Motor Vehicles Act. With administration’s intervention, the school authorities opened the the two gates on the Subhash Road side at around 1.40 pm but most of the parents had already left for their homes by this time.

Meanwhile, the traffic

outside other public schools in the city remained congested after school hours with parents of the students parking their vehicles on the roadside causing congestion and inconvenience to road users.

The City Magistrate said that the administration had enforced the order and forcibly opened the SJA gates to enable parents to park their vehicles within the campus. He further said that all the schools were issued notice under section 133 of CrPC on May 25 to provide parking space to the students’ parent within the campus but these schools have not implemented the order so far. The district administration has launched a drive for enforcing this order in public schools which will continue in the coming days. “We need police force to implement this order.  As of now, we are enforcing this order in St Joseph’s Academy and later it will be enforced in other public schools,” he added.
