Students face problems in NEET counselling due to delay

PNS

The aspirants for admissions in the medical colleges of the state faced problems as the Second round of counselling for admissions could not start on scheduled time on Tuesday. The authorities however are claiming that the second round of counselling would start by late evening. The delay in the process of counselling for admission in the medical and dental colleges of state from the merit list of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) qualified candidates occurred due refusal of two private medical colleges, the SGRR medical college and Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS) to accept the fees set by the state government for the MBBS course. These colleges had even refused to grant admissions to the students in the first phase. On the intervention of court the matter was sorted out and these colleges granted admissions to the students.

The medical Education director and secretary of the centralised counselling committee Dr Ashuytosh Sayana said that the second round would start on late evening. He claimed that all formalities for second phase of counselling have been completed.

It is learnt that 16 seats are vacant in the Government Medical College Haldwani while only one seat is remaining to be filled in the Government Medical College Srinagar. Similarly Government medical college Dehradun has 17 seats remaining. All these remaining seats in government medical colleges are under state quota. In the HIMS Jollygrant and SGRR Dehradun 87 and 83 seats are still remaining and most of them are in central and management quota. In the Seema Dental College 82 seats are for grabs while Uttaranchal Dental college 69 seats are yet to be filled.
