Student politics stalls admission process at DAV, DBS colleges

PNS

Student politics in DAV (PG) College and DBS (PG) College has delayed the admission process for academic session 2013-14 by a week.

In MKP (PG) College too admission process for degree courses was delayed by a week due to politics over appointment of college principal though admission process in SGRR (PG) College is nearly complete and classes will resume from next week.

Principals of DAV (PG) College and DBS (PG) College have decided to release merit list for seats in bachelor and post graduation courses from this academic session.

The resulting protests by student bodies in these two colleges may continue longer as the principals are in no mood to retract their decision because of limited infrastructure in the two colleges.

The admission process in these two colleges is expected to be delayed by two weeks as student leaders have forcibly closed down the colleges

indefinitely for the last few days demanding increase in seats in different bachelor and

PG courses.

Talking to The Pioneer, DAV (PG) College Principal Devendra Bhasin said that indefinite strike called by student leaders cannot be continued indefinitely.

Students may talk to the college administration and HNB Garhwal University administration regarding redressal of their grievances.

“To conduct admission process peacefully, district administration has already deployed a PAC platoon in the college and we have decided to open the college from Tuesday and admission process will be resumed as per the seats allocated by the university,”

he added.

Former DBS (PG) college students’ union president and ABVP member Pradeep Kumar said the union has decided to continue its protest unless college increases bachelor degree courses seats

by 100. According to him, college has enough infrastructure to accommodate increased number of students.

Moreover, admission process in MKP (PG) College was also adversely affected by a week due to strike called by college non-teaching staff union in support of release of their two months salaries.

After reappointment of Indu Singh as college principal, the admission process may resume from Monday.
