PNS

large numbers of people led by former MlA Rajkumar staged a protest over lack of facilities in the associated hospital of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) on Monday. The protesters gheroed the officiating Medical Superintendent (MS) of the hospital Dr KC Pant on the occasion and submitted a memorandum directed the Principal of the college, Dr Pradeep Bharati Gupta.

The former MlA said that ever since the erstwhile Doon hospital was merged into medical college its services have deteriorated. Citing alleged death of a female patient recently due to delayed response of the doctors and negligence he said that immediate measures are needed to be taken to improve the condition of the hospital. Rajkumar suggested that the 200 beds should be added in the Gandhi centenary eye hospital, Dalanwala to ease pressure on the biggest Government hospital of the State. He demanded that the number of beds in the emergency wing of the hospital should be increased and lift of the hospital should be repaired. The former MlA also expressed anguish on repeated malfunctioning of the machines like digital X-ray, CT scan and MRI. He also said that proper sanitation should be maintained in the hospital and proper disposal of biomedical waste should be done. The congress leader expressed grave concern that many eligible persons are not being provided the benefit of the Mukhyamantri Swasthya Bima Yojna (MSBY) in the hospital.

The agitators warned that the agitation would be intensified if any perceptible change in the attitude of doctors, improvement of facilities and functioning of the hospital is not noticed.
