Gearing up to upgrade the e-connectivity of the State, Chief Minister Harish Rawat has instructed IT secretary Deepak Gairola to prepare a comprehensive plan for the connectivity through Internet protocol version-6 in the State. It has been noticed that connectivity through optical fibre is not successful in the hilly areas of the State, he said while addressing a workshop on internet protocol version-6 in secretariat on Thursday, adding that it is thus an imperative to prepare intensive plan by the implementation of which these areas can utilise optical fibre connectivity. He asked Gairola to estimate the cost so that the State Government can ask money from the Union Government.

During the workshop, the officials apprised the CM of the fact that  currently IP version-4 is being used in which when the computer is being connected with the internet it allots particular IP address to the computer.

It has capacity of four billion and  the coming time is meant for device connectivity, they said. According to them, IP address would be required for this. Thus it is time to switch  to IP-6 in the state, they opined.

Once implemented, the functioning of several sectors like health, education, smart building, smart city and traffic management would improve, CM said. “Every state is preparing its connectivity plan as per its own requirement and so we have sent a proposal about special purpose vehicle to the Union Government,” Rawat added.

Among others, home minister Pritam Singh, chief secretary Rakesh Sharma, principal secretaries- Omprakash, Radha Raturi, Dr Umakant Panwar — were present at the workshop.
