State SP chief backs Mulayam

MANOJ KUMAR

Unfazed by the upheaval going on in the Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand SP chief Satyanarayan Sachan said on Monday that they are still loyal to Mulayam Singh Yadav. “We are maintaining the strategy of wait and watch with things happening at benumbing pace.

However, as of now, the party's Uttarakhand unit is standing solidly behind the party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav,” he said. He hastened to add, however, in the same breath that the state unit would go the way the party symbol goes. “We would support the unit as the real SP which enjoys the original symbol of the party,” he said.

Notably, UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has been appointed as the national president of the party, replacing his father by the national executive of the SP convened in lucknow on Sunday.  Mulayam Singh Yadav has been kicked upstairs as the mentor, a move that Mulayam has dubbed as unconstitutional. Not just that, on the basis of the demand of the national executive, Shivpal Yadav was sacked from the post of the state party president while the party’s Rajya Sabha MP   Amar Singh was expelled from the party.

“We are fully aware of what is happening in the party in UP. We are still hoping that the party would be spared the vertical split. We are for the father and son coming to an understanding to save the party from an imminent split. The murkiness would hopefully be cleared in the next few days. However, at present, we are with the founder-president of SP Mulayam Singh Yadav,” Sachan said.
