Uttarakhand School Education Director General RK Sudhanshu dissolved examination control room two days before the end of the Uttarakhand Class XII board examination. During surprise visit to the control room he found 16 teachers deployed there were absent on Wednesday. He served show cause notice to the deputy director Nagendra Barthwal for the same. The examinees of Class XII will appear in their last paper on Friday.
One of the education officers said that the department had deputed eight teachers to the examination control room to coordinate with schools for conducting peaceful examination in the state. Difficulties faced by the school principals were resolved by the control room officials.
Apart from this, 16 teachers were also deputed as members of flying squad to conduct inspections in ultra sensitive examination centres.
Observers opined that flying squad members and officers in the control room were deputed under political influence. These members were directed to stay in the directorate till 5pm and complete their assigned work. A question arises whether flying squad members inspected the examination centres during examination.
Moreover, this year, only seven students of class X and XII were caught copying and subsequently expelled by the school administration officer in the state, whereas 31 students were caught copying during the board examinations last year.
When Sudhanshu asked deputy director Narendra Barthwal about the reason for absence of teachers in the control, he failed to answer satisfactorily. Barthwal said that eight teachers were deployed in two shifts between 9am -1pm and 1-5 pm to help the schools if they face any problems during examination across the state. He said that the examination control room was dissolved as Uttarakhand Class X board examination ended on Wednesday and teachers had to go to their respective schools for evaluating annual examination papers of pre-board classes.
Talking to The Pioneer, Sudhanshu said that the education department will maintain transparency while appointing teachers on examination duty from next year.
