In a significant development in Ruby Choudhary case, the State police have changed the investigating officer and made SSP at Police Headquarters IPS Dr Sadanand Date as the new IO of the case.
The State police had earlier formed Special Investigation Team (SIT) to crack the case. In two months since this case came into picture, the State police had changed IO for the second time on Tuesday. The State police have taken this decision after Chief Minister Harish Rawat had rejected the State police’s recommendation for a CBI inquiry in the case.
Notably, the SIT has failed to step on any concrete evidence to confirm the complicity of lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (lBSNAA) officials despite over two months having passed since it came up into focus.
The decision to change the in-charge was inevitable with the State Government and the police department facing flaks from all quarters for having failed to crack the case and fix responsibility, said an observer.
Choudhary who had allegedly stayed in lBSNAA premises for about seven months while posing as an IAS probationer is now out of jail as she recently secured bail from the district court.
Speaking of the matter, State DGP BS Sidhu said the replacement of the IO would take the probe to its logical conclusion. “We hope that the case would be cracked soon under the new IO,” he said.
It should be mentioned here that the police had earlier formed Special Inveistgation Team led by CBCID in-charge Shahjahan Ansari in April. On medical ground, Ansari was replaced with additional SP Mamta Vohra in May. Now, police have swaped Vohra with Dr Date as IO to pump new life in the case.
The Academy security officer Satyaveer Singh had registered a case under Sections 420/467/468/471 of the IPC against Choudhary in the Mussoorie Police Station on April 2 evening. Ruby was arrested on April 3 night.
