The State Government is laying emphasis on promotion on small and medium enterprises (SME) because this can help increase the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and check migration as well.

These views were expressed by the State Small and Medium Enterprise Minister Harish Chandra Durgapal while convening a meeting with officials and sector representatives at industry directorate in Dehradun on Monday.

It would be pertinent to mention here that SMEs are playing pivotal role in State GDP and currently 43,000 SME are running in the State. There is need to reopen closed SME so he instructed them to compile the recommendations or suggestions of entrepreneurs so that we would incorporate these while making policy for the industrial promotion in the State.

“As other States are giving lot of incentives to the SMEs in their States, so we should study their policy and also make sure that whatever incentive Uttarakhand Government is giving to the entrepreneur should reach to the recipients on time,” he said while also making it clear that he knew that entrepreneurs were not getting Government incentives like subsidy and so they were feeling disheartened.

He also instructed them to make sure SME should get proper platform to sell their product. For this he asked SIIDCUl and industry department officials to provide them market opportunity. You also make sure that SME should flourish along with large industry so you promote such SME, which can consume locally available raw material so that local would get market for their product. To facilitate the industrialist you also keep update your single window system so that they can procure information about the incentive through internet.

Secretary in-charge SME Ajay Kumar Pradyot said that youth population is increasing year by year and it is not possible for everyone to get government or private job so employment opportunity would be major problem in the state. For this we have to find out platform for the generation of employment.

To establish industry person will have to get accustomed with latest technology so we have to give emphasis on technical and vocational training for youth.

Only 15 percent youths passed out from college or university get employment so we will have to establish liaison with industry so that they will open their industry for youths and youth would get opportunity to develop their technical skills.

SIIDCUl Director Shailesh Bagauli said that SIIDCUl has got 18 industrial sites from UP industrial development corporation. In which 25 percent sites will be allotted to SME. He also made it clear that SIIDCUl is part of state government and get land for development only. Thereafter they provide land for industry only. For this they have separate rate of land for industry and SME. We provide land to SME as per their requirement.

During meeting industrialist demanded policy for SME and also provide all information on single window, make arrangement of ground for trade fair, establish laboratories for product verification and arrangement of tool room.
