Taking a cue from recent instances of security forces personnel expressing their candid opinions and complaints on social networking sites, the Uttarakhand director general of police MA Ganapathy has directed police personnel to inform their seniors in case they nurture grievances. Their concerns would be promptly redressed, he assured.
The state top cop asked the police personnel to use social networking sites for professional works only. Action under the police (incitement to disaffection) Act 1922 will be taken against any policeman or police woman for violating the order, stressed Ganapathy.
He also issued a guideline for the police personnel using social networking sites- facebook, what’s app, twitter and youtube –and asked the district police chiefs and police commandants to strictly implement the guideline.
If policemen wish to put their department- related issues they should follow departmental procedure, he said, adding that they should put their concerns before district police chiefs or battalion commandant in the meetings held every Tuesday and Friday. In addition, they can inform their personal or service concerns to DIG Range, IG PAC on Monday and DGP on Friday. Under special circumstances, they can inform the same through what’s app or message to their SSP/SP/Commandant. The officers concerned would redress their concerns on priority basis, the state police chief assured.
Besides, welfare officers have been appointed at district or commandant or unit level for the redressal of policemen’s grievances, he said.
Welfare officers have been directed to maintain records of complaints received from police complainants to ensure their prompt redressal.
Policemen should not upload service related images on social media sites, he warned, adding that they should desist from forwarding such messages to others. “We will take all possible steps for the welfare of the policemen,” DGP stated.
