PNS

Under pressure from the State administration all transferred doctors from the associated hospital of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) were relieved on Wednesday. Twenty doctors of the state health department who were attached with the medical college from last two years were shifted by the state administration on June 15. On Wednesday, the hospital administration relieved these doctors. The transfer of these doctors would severely hit the services in the biggest Government hospital of the State.

A total of 14 doctors are transferred from the general wing of the associated hospital of GDMC while six doctors are shifted from the female wing of the hospital. The transfer of these doctors would adversely affect functioning of emergency wing, anaesthesia, radiology, pathology and general medicine department. The hospital now has only four anaesthesia specialists which are the basic requirement of the maternity ward of the hospital which runs in three shifts. The general operations in the hospital would be affected as the hospital has no anaesthetists remaining for the general hospital. Similarly in the emergency wing only one Emergency Medical Officer (EMO) has remained now. The emergency of the hospital runs 24 x 7 and managing it would be one of a major challenge before the hospital administration.

The transfer of lone nephrologist of the hospital, Dr Harish Basera would also mean that the patients would not avail the dialysis in the hospital now. A similar situation exists in the radiology department where the transfer of MRI specialist Dr Yatindra Singh has put up a question mark on the continuance of the service. The entire workload of MRI, CT Scan, digital X ray, X Ray, ultra sound, mammogrpphy and bone densitometer has fallen on shoulders of Dr G S Joshi who is a retired Director General (DG) of state health services and is working on contract. He incidentally had also expressed his wish to relinquish his job in wake of heavy workload.

The hospital administration had anticipated adverse fallout of due to the transfer of doctors and had requested the state government to let five doctors Dr Narendra Singh Tomar, Dr Pankaj Sharma, Dr Abhilasha Kohli (all anaesthetists), Dr Yatindra Singh (Radiologist) and Dr Deepika Jain (Pathologist) working in the hospital till alternate arrangement for them is made. However the state administration did not entertained this demand of the hospital and ordered immediate relieving of all transferred doctors.

The Principal of the GDMC Dr Pradeep Bharati Gupta said that the Emergency ward of the hospital would be managed by the EMO and the Senior Residents (SR) and Junior Residents (JR). He added that the recruitment process for EMO. The Principal said that the Anaesthesia specialists would be drafted from JSY of National Health Mission (NHM). He said that the radiologists would be outsourced and the efforts are being for attachment of radiologist from PMHS.

On June 15 the health department had transferred 241 doctors in an attempt to strengthen facilities in all district hospitals located in mountainous areas. A total of 171 doctors from hospitals located in plain areas were sent to mountainous locations while 70 medical offices serving in mountainous locations from last many years were sent to hospitals located in plain areas.
