The sweeping victory of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the Delhi elections seems to have rejuvenated a moribund party in Uttarakhand. The AAP’s hope to provide a third alternative to the people of Uttarakhand received a mortal blow in the parliamentary elections in month of May last year when all its candidates lost their security deposits. The debacle caused large scale migration from the party as the party cadre was demotivated and disillusioned. The State unit of the party became defunct with the State coordinator Harish Chandra Arya calling it quits recently.
The resounding victory of the party in Delhi however enthused the party workers here and they started an impromptu celebration. The workers gathered at the party office near State Assembly in Dehradun from where they took out a victory rally to the Gandhi Park. The workers celebrated by dancing to the beats of drums and distributed sweets.
AAP leader Anup Nautiyal has said that the party’s victory in the Delhi has proved that the electorate of State capital was not satisfied by the negative brand of politics practiced by the BJP and the Congress. He said that people of Delhi have expressed their solidarity with an alternative politics. Nautiyal said that the people of Uttarakhand are struggling for basic needs. He hoped that people of the state would rally behind AAP in the elections of 2017.
The State treasurer of AAP Ranveer Chaudhary told The Pioneer that the results of Delhi elections would act as a booster for the party in the state. He claimed that the party has completed its Mission Vistar (expansion) and soon the responsibilities in the district and state would be handed over. Chaudhary said that AAP victory in Delhi has demonstrated the power of party organisation. Another leader Sanjay Bhatt said that the party would work with renewed energy in Uttarakhand.
