Bank loan scams, spiriting away sums to the tune of crores, having reached staggering proportions in Uttarakhand, the Special CBI Court on Tuesday convicted 11 persons, including a senior bank manager and five women, and sentenced them to varying terms of imprisonment in the 2009 bank fraud case.
The case relates to forged documents being used to secure housing loans by 35 persons in 2006 and 2007 from Haldwani branch of The Bank of Baroda.
The senior bank manager NC Arya had sanctioned house loans to 35 persons on the basis of forged documents. Things started moving after another senior manager of the same bank KK Sharma had drawn CBI’s attention to the scam on June 3, 2009.
CBI had registered a case regarding the same on June 5, 2009.
