If you waiting for the online tax payment service to be introduced in your town than you will have to wait for some more while as the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD)’s plan to launch e-tax payment system in the State capital is still moving at snail’s pace and is not likely to start soon.
The work of data entering of all the 20 circles of the town is yet to be completed which is resulting into the consistent delay of the plan. However, the scarcity of the technical staff at MCD is also one of the major causes of delay in the introduction of this e-service. According to Tax Superintendent at MCD, Rajesh Naithani, the work of e-tax payment system is in progress.
Admitting the staff shortage as the other reason for the delay in initiating the online tax payment service, Naithani maintained that currently there are only 4-5 clerks at the MCD, who are deployed for this task and around 11 Babu’s are holding the responsibility of all online tax section. In contrary to this, a clerk at MCD on condition of anonymity informed that currently there are only two clerks who are holding the sole responsibility of online tax payment services and still there is requirement of around 15 clerks at the tax department to speed up the work.
However, Mukhya Nagar Adhikari at MCD, Ashok Kumar claimed that the work of connecting the whole city with the e-tax payment system is still in progress and hopefully the service would start in January next year. Still some modifications are to be done in the agreement done between the hired bank and MCD for the online tax payment system.
The work was also delayed due to this reason, he averred. An official at MCD informed that out of total 20 circles of the town, data feeding for online tax payment of around 8 circles are completed and the rest work is still in progress. Meanwhile, earlier, the Mukhya Nagar Adhikari, Ashok Kumar had announced that as per the plan of computerizing the whole system of MCD under the e-governance proposal of the Government of India (GOI) the online tax payment services would be initiated most possibly by this month.
But the service is still not initiated due to several irregularities at the department level. Notably, a budget of around Rs 25 crore was sanctioned from the GOI to computerize the whole municipal corporation and MCD had purchased software with an expense of around Rs 95 lakh to start this online tax payment system.
