With a case being registered in Rajpur police station after a minor accused a senior student stating that he sexually molested him, Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Arun Mohan Joshi, has instructed Circle Officer (Sadar) Lokjit Singh to conduct a thorough check of the security details of the educational institution on Rajpur Road in which both the minors are studying. However, an official of the institution said that such reports have been made in the past also, but authorities forget to take follow up action on it.
SSP Joshi said, “CO Sadar has been ordered to make a detailed report about the entire security details of the institute’s premises, hostels and other places which the students frequently visit. He has also been directed to check what procedures are followed for students to interact with outsiders or who issues them out-pass when they go outside the premises. The aim of the check is to ensure that such cases do not happen again. We will be taking necessary steps once we get the report.”
However, an official of the institution raising questions on the working procedure of local authorities stated that in the past few years, cases of sexual harassment and sexual molestation have tainted institution’s image country-wide. Even when local authorities and commissions promise to keep regular check on the institution they never follow up on the earlier reports or the take compliance of the orders that were earlier issued in order to prevent these cases from happening in the future.
According to sources, on Friday, the purported victim has recorded his magisterial statements along with few other students. The investigation officer also went to inspect the alleged crime scene at the institution.
