The state Congress president Kishore Upadhyay laid to rest the speculation regarding his contesting the election when he announced that he is not a candidate from anywhere this time. He was defeated in last assembly election by Dinesh Dhanai from Tehri. This time it was believed that he would contest from either Tehri or Rishikesh.
