The Society of Pollution and Environmental Conservation Scientists (SPECS) organised three training programmes on  orientation and making of energy efficient lights for the students of The Doon School. SPECS innovated this programme in active collaboration with Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST).

SPECS secretary Dr Brij Mohan Sharma informed that the workshop was aimed at enabling the 37 participating students to develop a scientific temperament with technology transfer and literacy of electronics and energy efficiency. He said that this technology was well recognised by Uttarakhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (UREDA), Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and UCOST with SPECS receiving Energy Conservation Award 2009 and 2010 in addition to innovator award 2010- 11.This technology is partially supported by NABARD  and the State’s department of Statistics and Economics.

He said that lED is the need of today. It has a growing market and the demand is high.  He explained that lED bulbs save power, have a long life span, are available in multiple colours and spread no pollution. CFl has mercury that is harmful to human health. This is the reason why lED light is also called green light.

Various solar equipment was also demonstrated during the training programme with the students exhibiting a keen interest. One of the participating students, Archit Bhargava said that the workshop had proved useful by enabling the students with knowledge of energy efficient lights.
