Facing flak over traffic chaos on roads on Dussehra evening, the district police have drafted traffic diversion plan for Muharram slated on Saturday.

Dehradun SSP Sadanand Shankar Rao Date presided over a meeting with the police station officers and directed them to take measures to ensure improvement in the traffic system in their areas during political rally or religious procession to be taken out in the city in the coming days.

Things are trying for police as the Diwali festival is approaching and people are thronging markets for purchasing items. “We should draft traffic plans in such a way that road users are spared incontinences,” Date stressed.

The police officers were directed to establish coordination with the organisers of rally or any religious procession in their jurisdictional areas. “They need to meet them and draft traffic plan accordingly. Besides, they must coordinate with officers of district administration, Public Works Department, Jal Sansthan, Municipal Corporation, power department and sports department through letters and inform them about their responsibilities,” he said.

During the big rallies, the police officers should inspect the sites through which the rallies would pass, he stressed, adding that they need to draft traffic plan giving details of entry point, exit point, duty point, duty chart, number of policemen deputed, barricades, wireless -sets among others.

This aside, the policemen deputed for rally should be briefed properly about traffic plan and the organisers need to be informed of the traffic routes, Date said.
