Chief minister Harish Rawat has ordered that a special investigation team headed by a superintendent of police level officer will investigate the allegations of sexual exploitation with inmates at the Nari Niketan in Dehradun.
Chairing a meeting held at the Bijapur guest house on Tuesday, the chief minister reviewed the Nari Niketan case. On being informed by the officers of all the facts known to the authorities in this case so far, the CM directed that the arrangements in Nari Niketan should be improved.
It should also be ensured that there is no assault on the honour or security of the inmates staying there, he stressed. In case any carelessness by any official is found to be true in this case, stringent action will be taken against the person concerned. Additional chief secretary S Raju, secretary Dr Bhupinder Kaur Alakh, district magistrate Ravinath Raman, senior superintendent of police Sadanand Date, Social Welfare director VS Dhani and additional district magistrate (Finance and Revenue) Jharna Kamthan among others were also present in the meeting chaired by the CM.
It will be recalled that on November 21 officials had brought three inmates of the Nari Niketan to the district women’s hospital to undergo medical tests regarding the alleged sexual harassment of inmates. The three inmates were the ones purportedly featuring in the video clip on the issue that was spread through the social media.
Earlier, following reports in a section of the local media alleging sexual exploitation of sinmates, the ADM had reached the facility on Friday to record the statements of the inmates purportedly involved in the case.
