Speaker holds meet to review security ahead of session

In view of the two–day Assembly session slated to start at Bharadisain, an area of Gairsain in Chamoli district on November 17, Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal convened a meeting to review the security and other arrangements during the session at the  Vidhan Sabha premises in Dehradun on Friday. Kunjwal asked all concerned to ensure that all arrangements are made in time.

It was decided in course of the meeting that the visitors will have to show identity cards along with Vidhan Sabha passes to ensure their entry. Armed police would remain deployed at the entrance and the exit to stop unwanted people from getting in.

The session most likely to be the last one of this  Vidhan Sabha-the third one since the State was formed in 2000- several organisations are  likely to stage stirs in and around  the place where the session would be held. In view of this, ADGP has instructed IG Garhwlal to deploy additional police forces to deal with any exigency.

It is apt to recall that the  Opposition BJP MlAs trooped into the well of the House and  attempted to mount the chair meant for the Chief Minister, also the leader of the House, during the session held at Gairsain  2015. Pandemonium  escalating into fisticuff, police were forced to storm into to restore order. The Opposition alleged that some goons had been unleashed by the ruling party to beat them out while the  Speaker denied it, affirming that some marshals in civil dress had acted. The Speaker also rejected the Opposition demand for  investigation.

Kunjwal instructed the power and drinking water departments to make sure that there is round the clock supply of electricity and water during  the session. Besides, the health department was asked to arrange  doctors and medicines aside from holding a health camp at Bharadisain. He also asked the officials concerned to install  public address system so that it can be used whenever required.

The meeting was attended among others by chief secretary Shatrughna Singh, principal secretary Home Umakant Panwar, secretary Assembly Jagdish Chandra, secretary Home  Vinod Sharma, secretary Estate CS Napalchayal, additional director general of police Anil Raturi, IG Garhwal Sanjay Gunjyal, Chamoli DM Vinod Kumar Suman and officials of PWD, health, electricity, district and police department.
