The Vidhan Sabha Speaker Prem Chand Agarwal said that the just-concluded Winter Session of Uttarakhand Assembly had functioned smoothly for four days sans any work adjournment. He was addressing the media persons at his office at Vidhan Sabha on Saturday, a day after the session ended.

He said that the former general secretary of Lok Sabha G C Malhotra had also appreciated the proceedings of Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha. “The House functioned for 16 hours and 17 minutes during the winter session. Four bills were presented in the House in course of the session. In all, 70 petitions under Rule 300 were received during the session out of which 11 were accepted. Besides, in the course of the session, the chair gave direction to review the idea of setting up district development authority in the wake of problems being faced by the people in construction of houses in the rural areas,” he said.

He further said that the chair had directed the Government to act on the complaint that the Government officers are not inclined to respond to the questions placed in Vidhan Sabha under Rule 300. “This is a serious complaint and it must be looked into seriously,” the Speaker added.
