To ensure smooth conduct of the Budget Session, scheduled to begin on March 9, the Assembly Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal convened an all- party meeting here in Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday. In course of the meeting, he sought the support of both the Treasury and the Opposition members to run the House amicably during the session.
It would be pertinent to mention that there are instances of the Opposition disrupting the Governor’s speech. However, the Opposition has given assurance that they would exercise restraint during the Governor’s speech this time.
Kunjwal said that the session is important because the House will pass the Governor’s Speech-2016-17 and Budget for 2016-17.
While the Opposition appealed to the Speaker to allow them raise the issues pertaining to the state’s interest during the session the treasury bench appealed to them to comply with the Assembly procedures and abide by the rules while raising issues. The ruling party members further assured the Opposition that the latter would get prompt answers to the questions they raise in case they conform to the rules.
Before the all-party meet was held the business advisory committee (BAC) finalized the business for three days upto March 11.
The Speaker said that it is the responsibility of every member of the House to maintain the dignity and the decorum of the House. “It proves tough to run the House the way it should be unless all members across the political spectrum cooperate,” he said.
leader of the Opposition Ajay Bhatt assured that they would refrain from disrupting the House if the issues they would raise are properly taken care of. Seemingly taking due note of the slugfest that disrupted and shortened the last session, parliamentary affairs minister Indira Hridayesh assured the Opposition that their queries would be given prompt answers by the treasury bench if they abide by the rules of the House.
