Soon 13 new ventilators to be inducted in DMC's Associated Hospital

PNS

In a major initiative, the management of the Doon Medical College (DMC) has decided to install 13 new ventilators for its associated hospital (formerly Doon hospital). The hospital at present has only six ventilators out of which two are out of order.

The Principal of DMC, Dr Pradeep Bharati Gupta said that 13 new ventilators are in the process of being installed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital. He said that old ventilators of the hospital would be repaired. The Principal informed that 12 Pulse oxy meters and 19 multi parameter cardiac monitors would also be installed in the associated hospital of DMC. The Multi parameter cardiac monitor is used to check heart rate, blood oxygen levels and Carbon Di Oxide (CO2) while pulse oxymeter measures oxygen flow in the blood.

The biggest hospital of the state is awfully short of ventilators which are most important life support system machines. The Doon hospital has only four such machines while two are installed at the Sick Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (SNICU) which too was not functional from quite some time.

With less number of ventilators, the capacity of ICU of the biggest Government hospital of the state is limited due to which the patients are referred to other private centres. In absence of ventilator, newly born with some complications are referred to centres like Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust (HIHT) Jollygrant and Mahant Indiresh Hospital.

With the conversion of district hospital to the associated hospital of DMC it was believed that the emergency and the ICU facility of the associated hospital would be augmented.  With the authorities going to install 13 new ventilators the hospital would have a total of 19 ventilators now.
