SIT quizzes Academy officials

MANOJ KUMAR

In the Ruby Choudhary case, the Special Investigation Team members reached lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (lBSNAA) to question the academy officials on Friday.  This is for the first time that SIT quizzed the senior academy officials in connection with the sensational case.

Police sources revealed that the team had collected enough evidences to implicate academy’s deputy director Saurabh Jain in the case. He would be grilled soon. Sources said the written complaint in the Nehru Colony Police Station by the accused Ruby Choudhary tucking Jain into the case would be considered an important part of the investigation, a move that departs from their previous stance that an accusation by the accused carries no credence in regard to a case framed.

“We would act only after we are sure our evidences are incontrovertible and invincibly fool-proof,” one of the investigators said on the condition of anonymity. A senior police officer said the team had collected important evidences from the academy aside from Meerut and Nainital which they had visited as part of the probe.

Also, he said the four-day police remand of Choudhary who had clandestinely stayed in the well-guarded academy premises for around seven months posing as an IAS probationer, yielded positive results.

Investigation revealed that Choudhary had stayed in hotels at concessional rent, flaunting her forged ID as IAS probationer both in Mussoorie and Nainital. Also, she had presented herself as ex-IAS probationer (batch 2013). It has been learned that some IAS officers had visited the academy campus earlier without going through the formality of showing the identify cards to the security guards posted at both the entrances of the fortified academy. Were the guards lenient towards IAS officersIJ

Not so as the ITBP personnel were strict when it came to checking the identity of IPS officers. It has been noted that even a senior IPS officer who was to deliver a lecture to the IAS probationers had to wait outside the academy for half an hour once. Finally, he was allowed entry after he managed permission from a senior academy officer. Things regarding the police station in-charges were even tighter, as generally they were not allowed at all to get in.

Some ITBP personnel who were transferred from the academy and posted in other parts of the country will also be quizzed regarding security breach in the academy. The probe threw another riddle. It was found that though the names of the visitors who had come to meet Choudhary when the latter had stayed in the academy figured in the register book, but her name was nowhere in it.
