A piece of Government land, which has been in illegal possession in Haldwani’s Indira Nagar area since 1986, has finally been freed by the Nainital district administration from the illegal occupants.A hospital had to be opened at this 30,750 square feet piece of public land. The land was handed over to the health department in 2006. As the land was illegally occupied, the proposed hospital could not be built over the years.
However, following the High Court’s order of March 2015 in this regard, the piece of land has finally been freed from the illegal occupants, said Harbeer Singh, City Commissioner, Haldwani. Now, the same piece of land has been handed over to the health department concerned, added Singh. As the Nainital district administration has  said a financial provision of `8 lakh has also been made under the district plan 2015-2016 for construction of the long pending hospital project in this piece of land.
Meanwhile, the district administration, Nainital has also directed the district health department to do fencing around the said piece of land and start construction work. At the same time, it has also asked the Nainital district police to deploy a platoon of PAC in the  aforesaid piece land to strictly deal with those who will try to obstruct the construction work of the hospital on this piece of land.
However, the fact of the matter is that encroachment on public land and illegal constructions is still a major cause of concern in the region. In spite of occasional drives being launched by enforcement agencies concerned from the Nainital district administration against encroachments, there is no let up in such illegal activities. So freeing of the aforesaid piece of land from the illegal occupants must come as a discouragement for the encroachers and those, who try to illegally occupy the public land.
