Short of transport facilities on Bhai Dooj, denizens suffer

The passengers coming to Dehradun from Haridwar and also those going to Haridwar from Dehradun on Saturday were inconvenienced as the number of buses plying from the bus stands and railway stations in Haridwar and Dehradun fell far short of the requirement in view of the rush of passengers on the occasion of Bhai Dooj.

The passengers who were found waiting impatiently for buses in Haridwar vented frustration over their wait dragging  on for hours. “I must make it to Dehradun at any cost. My sister is waiting for me. Time is running out as the auspicious period of the celebrations would end soon. Yet, there is no bus here in sight. Things are really frustrating,” said Amit Juyal. There were several others like him found waiting gloomily with the buses remaining elusive.

The same picture was seen at ISBT in Dehradun too. Anita, resident of Dharampur, who was found standing gloomily at ISBT around 3 pm, said that she had gone to Roorkee to celebrate Bhai Dooj. “But I am yet to get a bus to return. I could not board the one that came some time ago as I found a literal loot of the seats. I wonder why the administration has not cared to have more buses on the roads to cope with the passengers’ rush on such a special day,” she said.
