Shantikunj of Haridwar has taken an initiative to give green cover to the banks of Kshipra river in Madhya Pradesh. During a talk with the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, the head of Gayatri Parivar has pledged to undertake the tree plantation drive along the 195 km-long stretch of Kshipra river.

During the Kumbh Mela of Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh, a ‘Vaicharik Kumbh’ was also conducted in which the head of Gayatri Parivar Dr Pranav Pandya participated and discussed the plantation campaign undertaken by his socio-spiritual organisation.

“This programme undertaken would not only involve the tree plantation but also conservation of the trees already planted. In 2011, we had pledged to plant 1 crore trees in the country and now we would take another project on the banks of the Kshipra river,” said Pandya. As part of the drive, medicinal plants, shady trees and some fruit trees would be planted along the river, he added.

Focus is on areas like Khandwa, Burhanpur, Sendhwa, Indore, Bhopal and Seedhi, said the spokesperson of Shantikunj.

Speaking on the maintenance and the conservation of the trees, Pandya shared, “The titles ‘taru-putra’ and ‘taru mitra’ that we give to the people where we launch such drive help them attach emotionally to the mission. They are thus charged  to  protect them.

This on its part helps  conservation of natural resources. It also fulfills   our purpose of spreading awareness,” he  added.
