Rajendra S Markuna

In order to ensure proper implementation of the child rights in Nainital district, Ajay Setiya, chaiman of the State Child Rights Protection Commission (SCRPC), has directed the officials concerned to constitute a task force.

Stressing on the need to prevent child labour and to ensure enrollment of maximum number of children in schools at a meeting on Tuesday, Setiya asked the officials concerned to set up the task force as early as possible.

Besides, he added,  in a bid to prevent child labour, the officials concerned must hold meetings of the task force on regular basis so that the child rights could be implemented in an effective manner.

Apart from the representatives from the Government offices, members of two NGOs will also be included in this task force, Setiya asked the officials concerned.  The task force will conduct raids in all the places which are found  violating the child rights, he added.

The chairman of the SCRPC also expressed concern over violation of admission norms under the Right to Education by the private schools in the Nainita  district.

Directing the Chief Education Officer of Nainital in this regard, Setiya asked the official concerned to ensure 50 percent admission against the target till July in those private schools which are not following the admission norms under the Right to Education.

Delay in granting recognition to some of the private schools has also deprived many a number of children of getting admission in these schools under the Right to Education. Therefore keeping in view the problems that the children are facing in getting admission in these schools, grant recognition to such  private schools  as soon as possible so that maximum number of students could get admission in the private schools, he asked the officials concerned of the education department.

He also called for maintaining quality of midday meal being provided in schools and aaganbaris. Since the midday meal is linked with the health of the children, therefore there should not be any compromise with quality, Setiya said, directing  the officials concerned of the Nainital district administration to ensure proper supply of the midday meal so that children could be provided the midday meal regularly.
