Following the example of neighbouring Uttar Pradesh (UP), the Uttarakhand assembly could allow the members who are more than 65 years of age to attend the upcoming monsoon session of assembly virtually from their homes.
The speaker Premchand Agarwal expressed this probability while inspecting the assembly hall and other facilities in Dehradun on Friday. The speaker said that different options are being explored and a final decision would be taken after consulting the leaders of Government and opposition.
Talking to the media persons, the speaker accepted that holding the session during the pandemic would be a challenge. He said that visitors and media galleries could be used in the seating plan for the members.
The speaker accompanied by the officials of Vidhan Sabha inspected the facilities and deliberated on the ways of holding the assembly session while following the regulations of Covid-19. The monsoon session of Uttarakhand assembly is scheduled for September 23, 24 and 25 in Dehradun. If the criteria of maintain minimum distance of two yards is maintained then the assembly hall can accommodate only 35 members. In such a condition, various options are being explored for holding the session in Dehradun.
