The second phase of counseling for admissions MBBS courses in the medical colleges of state ended on Monday with students taking admissions in the vacant posts. In the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC), 41 new students took admissions in the vacant seats.
Among these students large numbers of the students were from government Medical College Srinagar. The college exempted these students from medical check up and document scrutiny as it was already done at Srinagar. Some of the students however faced problems as college authorities demanded fresh bond from the students opting to take admission under bonded seats. Under these seats the government provides subsidy in the fees for which the student has to fill a bond that he/ she would serve for a period of three years in the state health service on the post of Medical Officer (MO). To ensure that the students don’t jump the bond the state government has made a provision that two sureties with papers of their properties should sign the bond.
On Monday some of the parents raised objection on necessity of bond. “We have already submitted the bond with two sureties in Srinagar which is also a government medical college. The authorities here should get the bond singed with Srinagar medical college transferred here,’’ said father of one of a parent. However the college authorities told them that the bond is signed by the Principal on behalf of the government. The college however granted a relaxation of two days to submit the bond.
The Principal of the college Dr Pradip Bharati Gupta said that seven students have gone from the GDMC to Government Medical college Haldwani while two from Haldwani have opted for GDMC. He said that 41 students were given admission on the day and medical examination was needed of only two new students.
