SDS varsity grapples with staff crunch

Vinod Chamoli

After peaceful conduct of the examinations of institutional and evening classes, Shri Dev Suman University is presently facing the challenge of evaluating around 1.25 lakh students, given its debilitating resource crunch. The exams held in 64 centres from May 12 were completed without hitch amid tight vigilance. However, the flying squads caught 79 students for cheating.

The real challenge is now staring the varsity in the face as it would have to evaluate around 1.25 examinees. It has already started the process of sending answer sheets from remote areas to the evaluating centres. Meanwhile, the plan of HRD Ministry to de-affiliate the institutions from HNB Garhwal University and link them to SDS University being in the final stage would further  compound the challenge for the University as it has been grappling with acute manpower shortage.

The University registrar Hansraj Bisht said the examination had been peacefully conducted despite the manpower and resource crunch. During checking, 79 students were caught cheating. Now the university is sending answer sheets to the evaluation centres safely, he added.
