The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) is going to send a proposal seeking two choppers to the State Government. The State Government has assured a chopper for emergency deployment of the SDRF team in disaster areas of the State, said SDRF battalion commandant P Renuka Devi on Tuesday.
“We are being updated about weather forecast for various parts of the State especially the mountainous regions by the Met office and teams are put on alert if adverse weather conditions are forecast by the Met officers,” she added.
She further said that SDRF teams have been posted in districts like Rudraprayag, Chamoli and Uttarkashi and they work as swift response team after being informed about disasters like cloud bursts, landslides and others. Moreover, after discovery of the skeletal remains of last year's disaster victims in the Kedar valley, SDRF personnel along with the State police have been conducting intensive combing operation in the forest areas of the valley. Following a landslide at a village in Chamoli district, the SDRF personnel on June 23 extracted three bodies of victims from under the debris of two collapsed homes in Sem village.
The SDRF teams consisting of sub-inspectors and constables were earlier given training in tackling disaster scenarios as per National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) guidelines.
