Scientists from 16 nations discussed hydrological regularoty services of forests, the influence of forests on precipitation and micri-climate, livelihoods and food security on the second day of the international workshop on forest hydrology being held jointly by the Forest Research Institute and Asia Pacific Association of Forest Research Institutes (APAFRI) with other partners.
Scholars like Dr AK Rana, Siti Aisah Shamsuddin, Brij Gopal and Zhou Guang Yi chaired different sessions during which various subjects were discussed including forests as a source of water-managing for livelihoods and food security, frontiers of research and application of modern tools and techniques in forest hydrology. From eight to 12 research papers were presented under each theme by subject experts.
Group presentation and panel discussion was held in the afternoon session. The individual conversations among scientists from different countries were simultaneously going on for the improvement of forestry science and hydrology and clarification of doubts.
A one-day field visit is also scheduled for September 25 to Selaqui farm of Central Soil and Water Conservation Research and Training Institute, which is located 20 km from the FRI. The field visit is aimed at providing the delegates firsthand experience of development and demonstration of soil and water conservation technologies and then to Mussoorie hills for them to witness restoration of vegetation in Mussoorie hills after large scale lime stone mining.
