Hundreds of teachers who were transferred from the schools located in accessible areas to the schools located in inaccessible areas under the Uttarakhand Teacher Transfer Policy protested at Parade Ground in Dehradun and raised anti-Government slogans on Tuesday.
According to them, in the mid academic session, teachers should not be transferred apart from which they also demanded rectification of irregularities existing in the policy by the education department. Around 400 teachers who have been transferred under the policy from the schools located in accessible to the schools in inaccessible areas will not join their new appointments. The protesters warned that they will intensify their protest across the State unless demands are met.
Uttarakhand Teachers Welfare Committee member Sanjay Garg said that a delegation consisting of committee members would meet Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna and would put the above mentioned demands before him.
He further said that there are several schools which were demarcated as most inaccessible or inaccessible area in the categorisation done by the education department in the years 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2011 but in the Uttarakhand Teacher Transfer Policy 2013, these schools are demarcated as accessible area. “Those teachers who worked in above years in these schools should be benefited in term of their working experience as it was earlier demarcated as inaccessible area,” he added.
Meanwhile, Garg said that a total of 433 teachers whose name has been mentioned in the transfer list will not join in their new appointments. If these teachers are relieved by their respective school principals, they would go on medical leave. According to him, the transfer of teachers in the mid academic session leads to inconvenience to them. Several teachers have been transferred in those schools located in inaccessible area where no student is studying there.
According to him, their association has been supported by large number of teachers in the state. The government should order to rectify irregularities existing in the policy rather directing the teachers to join in their new appointments, he added.
