In the wake of the dengue threat, the district education department of Dehradun has asked all the school heads to ensure that the students wear full sleeved shirts and trousers to prevent them from the bite of Aedes Aezypti, the tiger mosquito.
On Monday, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Dehradun, Dr YS Thapliyal had requested the education department to make sure that students wear full sleeved clothes in Dehradun. Following the request, the Chief Education Officer (CEO) of Dehradun, SP Khali has ordered the District Education Officers (DEOs) and Block Education Officers (BEOs) to spread awareness for Dengue among the students.
Talking to The Pioneer, Khali said school heads have been asked to inform the students about Dengue and its preventive measure during the morning meetings. He said that the order of wearing full sleeved clothes would be strictly enforced and action would be initiated against the school not following the orders.
The tough talk of the CEO assumes significance as last year most of the private schools choose to ignore the orders of district administration on the dress code in wake of dengue threat.
later, the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Harish Rawat intervened and issued stern orders to officials to ensure that the schools comply with directive. It was only after the rebuke from the CM that the administrative machinery swung to action and enforced the dress code on the recalcitrant private schools.
The district malaria officer, JP Bahuguna said that Tiger mosquito bites during the day time and the children wearing half shirts, shorts and skirts in the schools are easy prey to these lurking insects responsible for dengue. He added that people should not allow the water to get collected inside and near their houses. Tiger mosquito requires very less water to breed and multiplies at a rapid pace.
