The Supreme Court has ordered a stay on the acquisition of land by the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) for the execution of the Chakrata Road redevelopment plan.

According to the Doon Udhyog Vyapar Mandal head Vipin Nagaliya, the Supreme Court ordered the stay following a petition filed by the association of shopkeepers of Chakrata Roads affected by the redevelopment plan.

"The SC has given the State government and MDDA time of four weeks to present their position in the court," he added. It will be recalled a faction of shopkeepers and residents affected by the redevelopment plan have been opposing it since it was revealed.

They allege that this is a ploy of the State government to hand over the prime property on Chakrata Road to builders. They said that in 2011 the Chakrata Road traders and residents had agreed to give their land in public interest without protests for the widening of this road and now after its widening the MDDA wants to execute the redevelopment plan which is not in the interest of the affected people.
