SC rejects DP Singh's SlP, police to nab accused

PNS

With the Supreme Court having rejected on Friday the special leave petition (SlP) for exemption from arrest of the former special land acquisition officer DP Singh, one of the accused of the  multi-crore NH-74 land acquisition scam in Udham Singh Nagar district, police have decided to go all- out to nab the accused who is now on the run. Notably, the State High Court had on October 28 vacated its stay order granting him exemption from police arrest. Subsequently, Singh had moved Supreme Court and filed a special leave petition to evade police arrest. Police sources said that the SC has rejected the SlP of the accused while adding that they were yet to receive copy of the ruling. “Now, we are sure that the accused has been left with no other option but to either surrender in the court or appear before the police,” said a member of the Special Investigation Team, formed by the State police brass acting  on the instruction of the state government.

Circle officer Swatantra Kumar who is investigating the same case said that several teams under SIT have been formed and they have been conducting raids across the state as well as in some other parts of the country following  the High Court vacating the stay order on October 28. “We hope to nab him soon,” he added.

Another police officer said on Friday that some SIT teams are now camping in Delhi while others are conducting raids at some places across Uttarakhand to arrest Singh.

The State Government had earlier handed over the case to SIT after an FIR was lodged regarding the multi-crore land acquisition scam, dubbed as a super scam. SIT has already collected evidences related to the case after questioning officers and employees of the departments concerned. SIT had secured sufficient evidences against SlAO DP Singh regarding the case to nail his down, police had claimed.
