Garhwal MP and former Chief Minister Major General Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri has on Thursday condemned the incident that allegedly occurred of Nari Niketan where an inmate was sexually exploited. He said the State Government and State Women Commission covering up the incident deserve condemnation from all quarters.
He said that the hapless women residing at Nari Niketan expect security socially from the State Government to keep their honour intact. “But they are being forced to fall prey to lecherousness. The State Govt’s role is despicable, as instead of conducting an independent inquiry, they are engaged in a cover-up, evidently to shield the culprits. Keeping things away from the glare of the media seems to be their priority instead of getting into the bottom of things and bringing the miscreants to book,” he said. Taking cudgels at the State Women Commission, the senior BJP leader said its role is pernicious. “It has been keeping a studied silence since the incident came to light. The silence is eloquent as it triggers questions as to whether some persons wielding political importance are involved in it,” he added.
He warned that he would raise the issue at the National Women Commission, asking it to conduct an independent inquiry to dig the truth out. “My party would see to it that the guilty are booked and put behind the prison bars,” he averred.
