Sans cops, sewerage work leads to jams on Haridwar bypass road

Dehradun citizens are facing traffic congestion on the busy Haridwar bypass road due to lack of police presence on this road. With sewerage work going on for the past month on Haridwar Road near Rispana Bridge, the traffic coming from the bridge to Haridwar Road is diverted to take a u-turn from Haridwar bypass road but even during the morning rush hours, there is no policeman posted full time at this site which is a few hundred metres from the Nehru Colony police station.

This in turn is causing major inconvenience to the public. According to the SP (Traffic) Pradeep Rai, traffic police are already assigned to that area. CO (Traffic) Swatantra Kumar said that most of the traffic police and home guards were busy in Diwali duty and then on duties during the visit of Prince Charles so this site did not receive adequate attention earlier. However, now a sub inspector and traffic constable are posted to manage the traffic.

local resident, Ashish Saxena said that to resolve jams, police established barricading at the intersection near Rispana Bridge but absence of police causes traffic congestion especially in morning and evening. Another local resident Seema Rana said, “It’s a terrible feeling to drive on this road these days, especially during evening hours, as most of the times I get stuck in the traffic jam. This is one of the busiest routes of the city considering which the police seem to be making little effort to prevent congestion here,” she said.

Vijay Pal another local resident said that the sewerage work is going on this route for the past one month and traffic is also diverted. He said that no policeman is assigned to regulate traffic full time which is causing traffic jam here. “In peak hours, with no traffic regulation one has to wait for a long to cross this stretch of road,” he added.
