Udham Singh Nagar police is still clueless about the whereabouts of the two inmates of Sampurnanand camp jail (open jail), Sitarganj, who escaped on Saturday morning. Both are brothers — 34-year-old Hansraj alias Hansa and 38- year-old Harvansh alias Vansha. They were lifers, convicted in a murder case.
It is learnt that the inmates of Sampurnanand camp jail (open jail) are being provided with several facilities while they are serving the life term or other sorts of sentences in the open jail.
A jail official said, around four inmates escape from the open jail on an average every year.Quizzed over where the fugitives might have been now, Jayant Pangti, Sitarganj open jail officer, said that they might have hidden themselves in the forest areas. However, assisted by the local police, we are leaving no stone unturned to capture them, he said.
Sitarganj Police Station in-charge inspector Pradeep Rana said that teams have been formed and they are working hard to nab the fugitives. However, a case under sections 223/224 of IPC has been registered against both the accused, he added. It should be mentioned here that the escapade happened when the duo was given work to sow paddy crops in the field. Around 9 am on Saturday, they escaped when there was nobody to keep vigil on them.
