RVKM & ABSMS protest against ward sanitation committees

PNS

Members of the Rashtriya Valmiki Krantikari Morcha (RVKM) and Akhil Bharatiya Safai Mazdoor Sangh (ABSMS) held a protest at the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) on Monday.

The members of the ABSMS alleged that the decision to form sanitation committees in every ward will result in exploitation of the sanitation workers which will not be tolerated.

RVKM former chairperson BP Makwana said, “During the assembly elections in the year 2017, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) manifesto clearly promised the permanent appointment of workers however the party representatives have totally forgotten this.

Also, it is unfortunate that the mandate by the Department of Rural Development in the year 2011 which clearly said that granting salary in worker's bank account is necessary is not being followed in the decision of forming sanitation committees in every ward. This step should immediately be taken back for which we will be meeting mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’. If something regarding this will not be done soon then a bigger protest will be staged by us.”  ABSMS chairman Rajesh Kumar said, “Even after our repeated requests nothing for the welfare of the sanitation workers was done. This latest decision will ensure that the workers never get permanent jobs. Officials should also think about the welfare of the workers.” It is important to mention that the decision of forming sanitation committees was passed after councillors requested the mayor for the same. Each councillor will receive funds from MCD for the salary of five workers in each sanitation committee in the wards.
