The Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) members held a meeting with Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna on Monday evening and decided to postpone sending persons to Kedarnath for resuming routine worship at the shrine.
Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee chairman Ganesh Godiyal informed The Pioneer that with rough weather and difficult conditions making it dangerous to transport people to the area, the team to be sent for restoring the ceremonial worship at the shrine will not be sent this week.
“The police, NDRF personnel, doctors and others sent by the government to the area are already stuck so it would not be wise to send more people to the area. The team will depart for the Kedarnath shrine next week if the weather permits,” he said.
It should be recalled that earlier the Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee had expected that regular ceremonial worship would resume at this important shrine by July 10 but weather and other factors have prevented this from being facilitated.
Since the disaster hit Kedarnath on June 16-17 a local shop keeper Darshan Singh has been burning incense at the shrine morning and evening, confirmed Godiyal.
It should be noted here that the shrine and surrounding area will have to undergo ritual purification as dead bodies were littered inside the shrine and around it. Ceremonial worship here will be resumed only after the necessary rituals are completed.
