In a daring armed burglary that occurred on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, about half a dozen robbers barged into the house of assistant commandant of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) Sunil Kumar Dhaundiyal at Harrawala area (Siddhpuram Colony) in Dehradun and decamped with some cash, jewellery and some other valuables while confining his son aged about 19 years and daughter aged about 24 years in a room.

The CISF officer and his wife were not present at their residence when the robbery was carried out. Significantly, the area is situated within the Doiwala Assembly constituency which the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat represents. Upon being informed, DIG Pushpak Jyoti and SSP Nivedita Kukreti along with other police officers rushed.  A case under appropriate sections of IPC was registered against some unidentified persons at Doiwala police station. Several teams, including SOG, have been engaged to crack the case. It is learnt from police that sketches of the accused have been drawn based on the information given by the eye witnesses of the crime.

Doiwala police station inspector OS Rawat said that based on the local inputs, four teams have been sent to western Uttar Pradesh while three others, including SOG, have been engaged too to crack the case. Besides, field unit, dog squad and forensic team also reached the robbery site.

However, no concrete clues have come their way so far, he admitted while adding that the police are reviewing the CCTV footages installed around the area to identify the robbers.

He said that the assistant commandant Sunil Kumar Dhaundiyal and his wife were not present at their residence when the incident occurred. “The incident had occurred at around 3 am on Tuesday night and the criminals had forced into the house after they broke the grill of the kitchen. Two children who were sleeping at their rooms were confined in a room and the robbers threatened them against raising an alarm.   Criminals decamped with cash, mobile phone, laptop and jewellery after bolting the door from the outside,” Rawat said.
