The laying of sewer and water supply lines under the the Asian Development Bank (ADB) scheme in the Cantt area is marred by anomalies. After this work, the roads are being constructed in an unsystematic manner with inferior quality, said the BJP councilor from Mohit Nagar, Amita Singh.

Addressing the media here on Friday, the councilor said that party activists and locals had from time to time informed the officials concerned about anomalies in these works and had also staged demonstrations. Despite this, the department has remained apathetic to the irregularities and there has been no improvement in the execution of these works, she said.

The roads constructed under ADB in Vijay Park, Dronpuri, New Colony, Ballupur, Vivek Vihar, Aravali Enclave, Indrapuram, Patelnagar, Govindgarh, Mahendra Vihar, Sattowali Ghati and other areas have also started showing signs of deterioration.

Singh pointed out that ADB water lines are being laid in an ill-organised manner despite the Government being warned time and again against execution of such works without the supervision of any technical officials. The officials have no control over contractors while the Government has no control over the officials, she alleged, adding that such misuse of Government fund was being perpetuated with the connivance of the State Government.

Singh further said that in the Cantt Vidhan Sabha area, roads had been constructed in Mohitnagar ward,, Ballupur, Indrapuram, Dronpuri and other areas. The Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority had withheld payment to contractors due to inferior quality construction of roads. Singh said, “The repair and reconstruction of these roads was undertaken on the request of MlA Harbans Kapur, myself and the local residents. However, a media representative of the Chief Minister made a cheap attempt to grab credit for these works by putting up his display boards along these roads. Since he is not even a public representatives, installation of his boards is also illegal and amounts to petty politics but the locals know that such persons have nothing to do with the construction and repair of roads in these areas,” councilor said.PNS
