Keeping the fact in view that the minority women are mostly vegetating in the gloom of under-development in every field, a Dehradun- based social organisation- Rural litigation and Entitlement Kendra (RlEK)- is now engaged in imparting leadership training to 175 minority women of different blocks of Dehradun district in seven batches. Two leadership training, each for six days, are being organised simultaneously in the villages of Horrawala and Ramsawala under Vikasnagar and Sahaspur blocks respectively of Dehradun district, the organisers said, adding that the training are sponsored by Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India under its Nai Roshni scheme. The two training which have been started on May 7 would conclude till May 12. The training are being conducted in a batch comprising 25 women each, all belonging to the minority groups.

The organisers claimed that the leadership trainings are making the minority women aware of their rights, leadership qualities, social schemes meant for their uplift, health and hygiene and educational empowerment. Besides, they are being educated on subjects like gender and women, women and drudgery and financial and digital literacy. One of the members of the organisation said that aside from informing the participants about various facets of Swachh Bharat Mission, the  trainers along with the participants cleaned the surroundings and each one of the participants promised to keep their surroundings clean in future. “I am sure that given the sincerity they have shown, they would ensure that their surrounding are kept clean and, if required, they would take initiatives themselves and involve others in keeping things clean in their surroundings,” he said.

He further informed that the trainings include question-answer sessions where the participants are having their doubts cleared through discussion.

“The response of the participants is very encouraging. One of them Anjum inquired about the possibilities of entrepreneurship. She suggested that she might work and earn from home if she is given the right information about how to start and how to carry on. This indicates that they would not lag behind others in the realm of entrepreneurship and the like if self-confidence is rightly instilled in them.

Another participant Sajana shared her ideas of what makes a good leader while Gulafsha dwelt on what makes a bad leader,” he said, adding that their response has encouraged them to continue with such training programmes for the minority women in the coming days who are showing strong inclination to come out of their cocoons and assert their rights and make their presence felt in the society.
