Revive ancient man-animal links: Scholars

PNS

During the valedictory function of IBAC congress organised by the department of zoology and environment science of Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya, members of the religious fraternity and department heads quoted extensively from the Indian scriptures Ramayana and Mahabharata which are replete with references to human connections with wildlife.

The communication was established thousands of years by Indian sages and seers which the modern researchers in acoustics are establishing nowadays, opined the speakers.

Presiding over the function chief guest Swami Harichetanand Saraswati said, “A vulture (Giddh) tried to save Sita from the clutches of the demon king Ravana and got is wings damaged in the attempt. When lord Rama came searching for his wife Sita, he asked the birds and deer if they had seen her somewhere crossing the forest. The army of monkeys made the bridge to Sri lanka for Rama and his army to reach the island kingdom. There are many such references which show that humans knew the art of connecting with nature.”

Mahant Vinod Giri also said that the rising conflicts between humans and animals are a cause for serious concern today. Earlier there used to be cordial relations between man and animals. In the presence of lord Shiva and very holy persons, the prey and predator- deer and lion used to drink water from the same pond. They lived amicably in holy presence. The need is felt today to reestablish that union, he opined.

The registrar of Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya  quoted from Ramayana, “hey khag mrig madhukar shreni tum dekhi sita mrignayani” which means he addresses all birds, animals and bees to ask about the whereabouts of Sita.”

The chairman of SIIDCUl manufacturers association Harendra Gard said that the university department had made India rise in its level of hospitality by organising such conference attended by delegates from 26 countries and six continents.

The convenor of the conference Dinesh Bhatt thanked the participants and jointly announced with the chairman of IBC UK for the next meeting to be held in Canada next year
