PNS

The Uttarakhand unit of Congress party has called for a total revamp of the strategy to combat the Covid-19 pandemic. Addressing the media persons here on Saturday, the Vice President of Uttarakhand Congress Surya Kant Dhasmana said that the Uttarakhand government should revise its strategy to combat the pandemic in view of the prevailing situation. He said the situation of contagion in the last four months in the state has changed. “The contagion was in control in the initial phase as people completely followed the lockdown.

The cases were below 100 till third lockdown but with the return of migrants the situation deteriorated.

The state government failed to make proper arrangements for quarantine, screening and testing of returnees which resulted in spread of infection in all parts of the state,’’ he said. The Congress leader opined that the spread of the disease can still be controlled if the Government revises its containment plan and focuses on random testing and large scale screening.

The regulation of keeping the number of religious, political and social programmes limited should be strictly enforced.

The lockdown on Saturday and Sundays should be enforced but only essential services should be exempted from it. The liquor and meat shops should also remain closed on these two days.

Criticising the Trivendra Singh Rawat Government for favouring the sale of liquor and meat, he said that people expressed their annoyance when these shops were opened in lockdown.

He also took the state government to task for showing carelessness during the unlock phase which wasted the efforts of the general public during 100 days of lockdown.
