The doctors of the Mahant Indiresh Hospital here have claimed that they have successfully done a reverse shoulder arthroplasty operation on a female patient. The patient, 40 year old Shushma, a resident of Kotdwar town of Pauri was recently admitted in the hospital with complaint of acute pain in her left shoulder from the last four years.
The Ortho specialist of the hospital, Dr Navneet Badoni said that the patient was advised for biopsy in which a bone cyst was diagnosed. The patient was not able to lift her hand above 30-40 degrees. The orthopedics of the hospital decided to perform surgery on the patient.
“This operation was complicated and technically demanding one as because of the damaged Rotator Cuff, the normal shoulder replacement was not possible. In order to save the shoulder of the woman, Reverse Shoulder Arthroplasty was the only option, which was done successfully,’’ he said.
After the successful surgery, the patient is discharged from the hospital and she is also able to lift her hand up till 90 degrees. Reverse Shoulder Arthroplasty is a special type of shoulder replacement and the hospital authorities claim that it is second such operation in the State of Uttarakhand.
